What's happening is that the 'content' that is today called 'Google' (think Search, Ads, Android, YouTube, Maps, Google Ventures, Google Capital, Google X, etc.) is staying the same, only organized differently: put into separate, different boxes instead of remaining in one big box tagged 'Google.' While the search and ad business, YouTube, Maps will remain in that 'Google' box, other projects such as Calico, Nest, and Fiber will be getting their own boxes, with their own tags. Not necessarily (at least, not immediately so). 'So, this means Google is becoming even bigger?' Each company will be headed by a 'strong CEO' and (presumably) be run independently, with Alphabet handling the allocation of capital and making sure each arm is executing well.
